My first step toward advocacy and promoting awareness will be participating in The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event tomorrow. This is the first of many steps I plan to take in order to advocate, provide awareness, share my journey, and inspire others.
I refuse to be defined by cancer and I hope my journey will inspire, ignite passion for advocacy, and promote awareness.
It’s so easy to focus on the misery and pain of only the survivor, but it’s so much bigger than that! It’s the devastation, defeat, sadness, and heart-wrenching pain felt by family and friends of a person diagnosed with cancer. They’re the heroes too.
So, tomorrow, we will walk. We will walk for our family, friends, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, survivors, and those we’ve lost.
